Host a Plant

You have a space people walk through every day. Let’s put a plant in it—and help dogs, rivers, and your community along the way.

Here’s What We’re Building

Killing Plants is a local plant company based in State College, PA. We grow hardy, beautiful indoor plants in premium fabric pots—and we place them for free in offices, salons, churches, waiting rooms, and anywhere people gather.

When someone falls in love with a plant (and they will), they scan the QR code on the tag, pay online, and take it home. You get a fresh replacement the next week. Every sale sends a portion of profits to local dog rescue and watershed restoration.

We’re currently onboarding our first host locations right here in State College, Lemont, and Bellefonte. If you have a space—or know someone who does—we’d love to hear from you.

Ways to Get Involved

There’s more than one way to be part of this. Pick what feels right for you.

🌿 Host Plants at Your Location

If you have a reception desk, front counter, waiting area, or community space, we’ll place beautiful plants there for free. You don’t water them, you don’t pay for them, and every time one sells, it gets replaced. Your space looks better and every sale helps fund dog rescue and river cleanup.

💚 Spread the Word

Know a girlfriend who runs an office? A neighbor who manages a yoga studio? A friend at church who handles the welcome area? Tell her about us. The more spaces we’re in, the more plants find homes, and the more money goes to causes we all care about. One introduction can start a ripple.

🤝 Volunteer With Us

We’re building a community of women who love plants, love dogs, and love doing something that actually matters. Down the road, we’ll need help growing, delivering, and rotating plants across locations. If that sounds like your kind of project, we want to know you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it cost me to host plants?

Nothing. Zero. We place the plants, we maintain them, and we replace them when they sell. You just enjoy having a gorgeous, thriving plant in your space—and knowing it’s doing real good in the community.

Do I have to take care of the plants?

Nope. We handle watering schedules and check-ins. If a plant ever looks less than perfect, we swap it out. Your only job is to enjoy the compliments from everyone who walks in.

How does the selling part work?

Every plant has a small tag with a QR code. When someone in your office or waiting room falls for it, she scans the code with her phone, picks a size, and pays online. She takes the plant home, and we bring you a fresh one. It’s that simple.

Where does the money actually go?

Ten percent of our profits go directly to local organizations. Right now that’s Centre County PAWS (dog rescue and adoption), the Moshannon Creek Watershed Association (river and waterway restoration), and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (regional ecosystem health). When you scan a plant’s QR code, you can see exactly which charity that specific purchase supports.

What kind of spaces work best?

Anywhere people sit, wait, or pass through. Reception desks, salon waiting areas, church lobbies, dental offices, co-working spaces, boutiques, real estate offices, veterinary clinics—if there’s a counter or a corner where people linger, a plant belongs there. And honestly? The more foot traffic, the more plants find homes.

Can I tell my friends about this?

Please do—that’s how this whole thing grows. If you know another woman who manages a space, runs an office, or just loves the idea of plants funding dog rescue and cleaner rivers, send her our way. This works best as a community, and every new location means more plants, more donations, and more impact. Think of it as the best kind of chain reaction.

I don’t have a space, but I still want to help. Can I?

Absolutely. Buy a plant for yourself or as a gift—every purchase funds the mission. Share our page with friends. Follow us on social media. And if you’re the type who loves getting her hands dirty (literally), we’ll eventually need volunteers to help grow, deliver, and care for plants across locations. We’re building something here, and there’s room for you in it.

Is this only in State College?

For now, yes—State College, Lemont, and Bellefonte. We’re starting hyper-local on purpose because we want to do this right before we grow. But if this model works the way we think it will, it won’t stay small for long.
